I just received my VCP510 (VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5) certification. Because I’m a fanatic Hyper-V user, I also wanted to know enough of VMware to know the differences. VMware was always the better choice but recently with Windows Server 2012 this situation has changed. Microsoft claims that Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012 is able to compete not only in price but also on functionality and now I can officially agree to that fact.
But to get there I needed to prepare myself. I took the following steps:
First step is to get an class room training. Without it, certification is not possible. I took VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage 5.
Second step is creating a VMware home lab. Actually it is not that difficult. I used Autolab (http://www.labguides.com/autolab/). After some downloads the Autolab script will install a complete vSpere cluster environment.
Third step is learning. Besides the training material I received when following the class room training, I also used the following sides for additional information:

I wish everybody good luck and don’t under estimate the exam.
