Uninstall Intel Wired PROSet for Windows 1

Normally I would never upgrade a server to Windows Server 2012, but just do a clean install. But because it’s my own lab and I want to know what can happen I just did the upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 Datacenter.

After running setup.exe and choose the obvious choices, my installation halted. The Compatibility report stated I had to uninstall “Intel Wired PROSet for Windows”.

After Closing and exiting the setup I go to the “Uninstall a program”. But nothing to be found about this installation. I had to dig around but removing is actually easy.

Open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\PROSetDX.

Look for “UninstallString” and copy the value in a CMD box and the uninstall is done. Make sure you restart the system, otherwise the upgrade will once again halt in the compatibility check.

Only problem is all VLAN definitions will be removed. But that is something I have to resolve later.

Now my upgrade ran without a problem.
